Being quiet is so much more power than being loud and forceful. When you are quiet you can take in all aspects of the situation you are in at the moment. Sometimes people are just not able to hear what you have to say so when you are quiet not only do you not accept what is being said by not participating but you also take back your power and control. Yes, silence is golden.
Arguing with someone to convince them of your viewpoint is like pouring gasoline on a fire to put it out. It is not them you must convince of anything it is you that you must convince your position warrants action. Stop arguing and clear things up calmly and move forward or stop arguing and just move on.
