Curanderismo is complementary to western medicine, it approaches healing in an integrated manner dealing with the mind, body and spirit. The person who practices Curanderismo is called a Curandero (male) or Curandera (female), which translates to healer. Originally drawn from the ancient cultures of Mexico and Central America, it is steeped in tradition and ceremony. The Curandero/Curandera is usually a spiritual guide/leader within a community. This is the person who is sought when someone is sick or experiencing unusual circumstances.
Curanderos/Curanderas deal with the mind, body, and spirit through ancient and modern holistic practices using divine spiritual guidance to assist in a positive beneficial healing process for their clients and themselves. Curanderismo covers a wide variety of spiritual and healing arts.
